Lafite Rothschild

The vineyard, one of the largest in the Haut-Medoc, was 103 ha/255 acres in 2005 with a vineyard of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. Annual production is about 45,000 cases, of which about a third may be the second wine, called Carruades de Lafite but not restricted to wine produced on the plateau in the vineyard known as Les Carruades.
Not the biggest of the First Growths, but Lafite is nevertheless textbook wine: a magnificent delicacy of spicy fruit flavours, continuously unfolding and supported by an array of creamy-oak and ripe tannins; incomparable finesse.
