Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the reigns at the fourth generation Domaine Fourrier for the 1994 vintage.  Based in the village of Gevrey Chambertin, he has inherited 9ha of prime parcels.  Jean-Marie has previously worked with the late Henri Jayer and in the US with Domaine Drouhin in Oregon.

Since taking over there has been a marked improvement in the wines, making Fourrier an increasingly respected and sought-after wine.  Combining some of his father and uncle’s methods with his knowledge and ideas from Jayer and Drouhin he firmly believes (as most Burgundians do!) in his terroir.  Meticulous vineyard work and from vines no younger than 30 years old he vinifies separately, cold soak’s for 3-4 days for extraction and uses 20% new oak to allow some breathing, then bottles 20-24 months after harvest after leaving on the lees with no racking, sometimes without fining or filtrating.  As little intervention as possible allows the Pinot Noir to burst through, with purity and perfumed aromatics shining through.
