d'Yquem, Halves

37.5 DP 0 6 - 210
Tasting Notes for d'Yquem, Halves, 2001:
There are 10,000 cases of this perfect sweet white Bordeaux. The 2001 Yquem reveals a hint of green in its light gold color. While somewhat reticent aromatically, with airing, it offers up honeyed tropical fruit, orange marmalade, pineapple, sweet creme brulee, and buttered nut-like scents. In the mouth, it is full-bodied with gorgeously refreshing acidity as well as massive concentration and unctuosity. Everything is uplifted and given laser-like focus by refreshing acidity. This large-scaled, youthful Yquem appears set to take its place among the most legendary vintages of the past, and will age effortlessly for 75+ years. Wine Advocate # 158 Apr 2005

Rieussec, Halves

37.5 IB 1 0 300 -
Tasting Notes for Rieussec, Halves, 1997:
A slightly deeper hew than the 2001. This is a very distinctive nose, a little oxidative, burnt sugar, marmalade and a touch of caramel. The palate is full-bodied, slightly lower in acidity compared to the 1990. Fat, unctuous to the point of almost being cloying. At the mid-palate it loses its way a little, losing focus, a touch of warm alcohol. A little out of sorts. Wine Advocate #128 (Apr 2000).

d'Yquem

75 IB 0 2 - 225
Tasting Notes for d'Yquem, 1990:
1990: An extraordinary effort, Yquem's 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine. This wine also possesses lots of elegance and finesse. The wine's medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytis-tinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony and purity. Certainly it is one of the richest Yquems I have ever tasted, with 50-100 years of potential longevity. An awesome Yquem! Wine Advocate #122 (Apr 1999).

Climens

75 DP 1 0 695 -
Tasting Notes for Climens, 1989:
For whatever reason, the 1989 is merely outstanding rather than dazzling. Although it lacks the complexity of the 1988, it is a plump, muscular, rich, intense, full-bodied, and sweeter-than-usual Climens. For a 1989, it possesses good acidity. If more complexity and grip develop, my rating may look stingy. Last tasted 11/94.Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition # B1 Jan 1998
