2008 Veuve Clicquot
Seckford are delighted to offer a parcel of the 2008 Veuve Clicquot vintage expression.
Not only coming from the sublime 2008 vintage, this Veuve Clicquot release has a host of debuts for the label. It is the first vintage at Veuve Clicquot to be made by cellar master Dominique Demarville, who arrived at the house in 2006 from Mumm. Secondly, it is the first vintage in over half a century to use wooden barrels for fermentation and ageing, lastly it is the first vintage to feature the disgorgement date on the label.
With the Veuve yellow label being such a huge presence in the Champagne market, the vintage wines often look undervalued and with a new cellar master at the helm the 2008 is a delicious Champagne that can be drunk now or aged further in the cellar.
2008 Veuve Clicquot - £225 per six IB, or £210 per six with orders of 24 bottles or more.
92 Points (Wine Advocate)
Assembling 35% Chardonnay, 5% Meunier and 60% Pinot Noir, the 2008 Vintage Brut is one of the rare vintage Champagnes of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin and it follows the earlier releases of 1999, 2004 and 2012. Disgorged in March 2015 with eight grams dosage, the bright colored 2008 has a very clear, fresh, pure and intense, as well as complex nose, with brioche, biscuit and prominent Chardonnay aromas. Pure, dry, straight and elegant on the palate, this is a refreshing and lifted, but also complex and expressive Brut. It also has tension, grip and a stimulating salinity in the finish. This Champagne is excellent and should be served with seafood.
