Medium-bodied with a good amount of spicy baked berries flavors, the palate has a clever structure of soft tannins and lovely freshness, finishing with an herbal lift. (Wine Advocate)

Ch. d'Armailhac, Pauillac

6 £210 IB Pine forest & a very herbaceous nose - vivid purple colour, with spice and frankincense. Gorgeous, pure, rich cassis fruit. The rich fruit continues on the palate, with added fruit cake and yet more spice. It is just so perfectly balanced with fresh acidity and silky tannins that give it wonderful direction and poise. It has a savoury finish with a a huge length. This is seriously impressive. (Seckford Wines)
Buy Now Ch. Gazin, Pomerol  6 £378 IB

94-95 Points - This is very tight and polished with a compact and beautiful palate of blackberries, currants and black olives. Full-bodied yet structurally solid with a very long finish. (James Suckling)

94-96 Points - The 2018 Gazin was impressive all three times I tasted it. Powerful and vibrant, with terrific persistence, the 2018 has more than enough supporting structure to balance the natural richness of the year. Grilled herbs, scorched earth, iron, licorice, mint and dried flowers give the red/purplish toned fruit a decidedly savory dimension that is hugely attractive. Some samples showed quite a bit of tannin, but the wine has more than enough breadth to develop beautifully during élevage and beyond. Tasted three times. (Vinous Media)

Buy Now Ch. Capbern, St Estephe  12 £190 IB 92-93 Points - A fresh and firm Capbern with lots of dark berries, chocolate and hints of hazelnuts. Medium to full body and dense, lightly chewy tannins. Mineral undertone. (James Suckling)

Purple vivid fruit with lovely colour in the glass. Blueberry, spice on the nose - densely layered and with hints of coffee and spice, already this is a hugely impressive Capbern. The fruit on the palate is incredible, again vivid and pure. Tea leaf and more spice – the acidity is wonderfully fresh and tannins fine and well directed. The best Capbern since is new incarnation. (Seckford Wines)
Buy Now Ch. Clinet, Pomerol  6 £385 IB 95-96 Points - This is a young red that really grows on the palate with so much dark fruit and firm yet luscious tannins. Full-bodied, it grows and grows on the palate. Extremely long and vivid. Solid as a rock. 15 per cent cabernet sauvignon, the rest merlot. (James Suckling)

91-94 Points - The 2018 Clinet is a powerful, explosive wine. Clinet is unusual for Pomerol in that the wine includes a good bit of Cabernet Sauvignon (15% in 2018). Gravel, smoke, licorice, grilled herbs, leather and menthol wrap around a core of plush, dark fruit. The Cabernet is very much felt in the wine's flavor profile and textural weight. Dense, rich and inviting, Clinet is a winner from proprietor Ronan Laborde. Tasted three times. (Vinous Media)
Buy Now Clos de Marquis, St Julien  6 £232 IB 90-93 Points - The 2018 Clos du Marquis is a powerful, heady Saint-Julien. Smoke, cedar, tobacco, menthol, licorice, iron, scorched earth and gravel all run through this potent, virile Saint-Julien. In 2018, Clos du Marquis is especially tannic. There is so much to like about Clos de Marquis in 2018, but it will need time in bottle. Best of all, it should be a solid value. The blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Tasted two times. (Vinous Media)

94-95 Points - The purple-fruit and black-olive character with violet undertones is wonderful here. Full-bodied, yet reserved and intense. Finesse. Graphite and minerality. Layered. (James Suckling)
Buy Now Ch. Ormes de Pez, St Estephe  6 £126 IB 93 Points - This has the luxurious kick of the Lynch Bages stable and is brilliant value for this level of quality. It seems to manage this every vintage and is just such a brilliant drinking wine. 2018 is another excellent year here, with deep fruitfulness of brambled hedgerow alongside liquorice and woodsmoke. It has a polyphenol index of 84IPT, so this is full of tannins but they don't feel overpowering. Tasted several times and always striking. 45% new oak. 3.57pH. (Decanter)

Lovely rich colour. Wild, purple fruit on the nose. Silky, ripe, sweet fruit on the palate - superb tannins and structure with excellent direction and length. Ormes de Pez seems to get better with every vintage – in 2018 it has balanced the power and richness of fruit with lovely aromatics and freshness. (Seckford Wines)

Ch. Puygueraud, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux

12 £107 IB 92 Points - This is great stuff and highly drinkable with a wonderful richness on the nose and palate. It’s pretty fierce in fact and has real impact with the austerity of the mid palate quickly filled out by rich sweet black cherry fruit and a deeply spiced finish. The harvest took place between 24 September and 5 October. (Decanter)

IB 93-94 Points - There’s real freshness to the crushed-raspberry and blueberry character of this young red. Medium-to full-bodied and zingy with energetic tannins. Crisp finish. Lovely purity of fruit to this.
(James Suckling)

92-94 Points - The deep garnet-purple coloured 2018 Langoa Barton is slightly shy at this nascent stage, revealing wonderfully pure, warm red and black currant scents with nuances of blueberry preserves, chocolate mint, smoked meat and a waft of bouquet garni. Full-bodied, rich and sporting a lot of vibrant, juicy fruit in the mouth, it has firm, rounded tannins and a lively backbone lifting the fruit to a good, long finish. (Wine Advocate)

95-96 Points - This is a fantastic Branaire with deep and dark fruit, such as blackberries and blackcurrants. Lots of raspberries, too. Full-bodied with firm and creamy tannins and a super long finish. We will see if it’s better than 2016, but on its way. (James Suckling)

92-94 Points - The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Branaire-Ducru begins just a tad reduced with broody tar, rubber and fried herbs scents giving way to a fragrant core of warm cassis, blackberry pie and blueberry coulis with touches of smoked meats and tobacco. Full-bodied, firm and rugged in the mouth with brawny, muscular fruit and a sturdy frame of grainy tannins, it finishes long and savory. (Wine Advocate)
