Introducing you to our top picks from Burgundy's most esteemed villages.

It's Burgundy week at Seckford, and we move on to three villages that show the region at its most contrasting.

The world-renowned white wines of Meursault are unmistakably generous and luxurious. At the other end of the spectrum, Chambolle-Musigny is prized for the finesse and delicacy of its reds, while the reds of Nuits-Saint-Georges are defined by their structure and depth.

The wines below are selected as touchstones for each village, clear starting points from which to explore further across our range:

Burgundy Week Part Two Meursault

Meursault

2015 Meursault, Le Cromin, Bohramann

£195 per 6 IB
£255 incl duty & VAT

Le Cromin, on the Volnay side of Meursaultconsistently delivers wines with more drive and energy than the richer, more opulent central lieux-dits. That tension shows clearly in Bohrmann’s 2015: a warm-year Meursault that never tips into excess. Ripe orchard fruit and gentle citrus sit alongside a subtle hazelnut note, all carried by a creamy but well-judged frame. Crucially, there’s enough underlying freshness to keep everything in line. In its drinking window right now, but will still stand the test of time if left for a few more years as the dried fruit and honey element further develop.

Chambolle Musigny

2021, Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots, Boursot

£425 per 6 IB
£764 incl duty & VAT

In Chambolle-Musigny, Pinot Noir is defined by perfume and silky texture rather than power. Les Châtelots, a Premier Cru site on the Morey-Saint-Denis side of the village, tends to give wines with a little more structure while keeping Chambolle’s elegance intact. The 2021 is beautiful, with red cherry and raspberry fruit, floral lift and subtle spice, supported by fine tannins and bright acidity. We experienced the 2017 at our Christmas party, and it was divine, and the 2021 is showing a lot of promise.

Nuits Saint Georges

2019, Nuits Saint Georges, 1er Cru Les Damodes, Henri Naudin-Ferrand (Claire Naudin)

£245 per 6 IB
£315 incl duty & VAT

The reds of Nuits-Saint-Georges tend to show more complexity and savouriness depth than their northern neighbours, with Premier Cru sites adding real definition. Les Damodes, sitting high on the Vosne-Romanée side of the appellation, is known for combining Nuits’ backbone with a touch of Vosne elegance. This 2019 is packed with ripe red and dark berry fruit, subtle spice and a mineral edge, carried by firm but well-shaped tannins. A wine that will benefit from being laid down.
