Pomerol and Saint-Émilion.

Pomerol and Saint-Émilion sit at the heart of Bordeaux’s Right Bank, producing some of the region’s most seductive and sought-after red wines. Dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, these appellations are prized for their depth of fruitsupple textures and natural generosity, offering a different expression from the Cabernet-driven Left Bank.

In Saint-Émilion, the net is wider, but at its very best, a mosaic of limestone, clay and sand gives rise to wines of richness, structure and aromatic complexity. Just to the west, Pomerol is defined by its iron-rich clay soils, producing wines of extraordinary concentration and longevity, led by names such as PétrusLe Pin and Vieux Château Certan.

Below, we have selected a couple of wines from each appellation that are currently on our list, each capturing the generosity, finesse and ageing potential that make the Right Bank such a compelling choice for storage and immediate drinking.

Pomerol

L'Église-Clinet, Pomerol, 2019
6 × 75cl - £1,050 per case, In Bond

L’Eglise-Clinet is one of Pomerol’s most respected estates. Owned and run by the Durantou family, it is known for its tiny production and sheer attention to detail. The 2019 delivers layers of black cherryplum and blackberry, with notes of violettruffle and dark chocolate, framed by silky tannins and a long, mineral-laced finish. A serious Pomerol with the concentration to cellar confidently.

Nénin, Pomerol, 2018
6 × 75cl - £290 per case, In Bond

Château Nénin is one of the larger properties in Pomerol, known for producing structured, ageworthy wines under the stewardship of the Delon family since 1997. The estate combines power and elegance, with considerable complexity. The 2018 Château Nénin is widely regarded by critics as a standout wine from a warm, successful vintage, showing both richness and freshness. On the nose, ripe black cherry, cassis and dark plum are complemented by spice, violet and cedar notes, with hints of menthol. A fine concentrated expression that will suit ageing for the next 10 years.
