Tasting Notes

97
Vinous Antonio Galloni - 15 Dec 25
Classicists will adore the 1996 Barolo Monprivato (magnum). Black cherry, plum, lavender and graphite all soar from the glass. It's drenched in cool-toned savory and mineral notes that convey energy. At nearly 30 years of age, the 1996 remains vibrant and young. This is one of the Barolos I cut my teeth on back in the day. Tasting it always brings back so many memories of my early experiences. The 1996 Barolo Monprivato remains a monument to Nebbiolo.

Barolo

Barolo, the "King of Wines," is a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known for deep complexity, Barolo offers rich flavours of dark cherries, roses, truffles, and spices, with high acidity and firm tannins. It ages exceptionally well, evolving in depth and nuance. Barolo's diverse terroirs create a range of styles, from powerful to delicate. Top producers include Gaja, Bruno Giacosa, Giuseppe Rinaldi, and Marchesi di Barolo, all of whom exemplify Barolo's tradition and quality.
