Tasting Notes

Vinous Eric Guido - 01 Jan 25
The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is coy with a dark, dusty bouquet that emerges over time, mixing cedar shavings, licorice, balsamic spice, rum-soaked cherries and clove. It displays fantastic balance, with a silken feel, pretty inner sweetness and a cascade of ripe, citrus-laced red berry fruits. Fine-grained tannins amass as this impossibly youthful specimen finishes with structural heft and tension, leaving behind a tart cranberry concentration and an air of autumnal spice. The 2004 Riserva remains primary after twenty years. This might be immortal.

Tuscany Vineyard Fine Wine

Tuscany

Tuscany, a renowned wine region in central Italy, is famous for its high-quality Sangiovese-based wines. Key styles include Chianti, with vibrant acidity and red fruit flavours; Chianti Classico, known for greater depth; and Brunello di Montalcino, prized for its rich, full-bodied character and ageing potential. Tuscany also produces prestigious Super Tuscan wines that blend Sangiovese with international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon. Top producers are Antinori, for Tignanello; Castello di Ama, for Chianti Classico; and Biondi-Santi, for Brunello.
