Tasting Notes

Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jan 00
Saturated purple-ruby to the rim. Brooding aromas of blackberry, game, gunflint and smoke. Dense and lush; powerful and fresh. Extremely intensely flavored. Shows a slight green quality and strong acidity, but revealed strong fruit as it opened in the glass. Firmly tannic and very long. This should be long-lived, and may well merit a 90-plus rating with bottle age.

Grown on steep, sun-drenched slopes, these wines are known for their intensity and depth, featuring flavours of dark berries, black pepper, smoked meat, and earthy notes, with strong tannins and excellent ageing potential. Cornas focuses exclusively on 100% Syrah, with granite soils adding to its complexity. Top producers include Domaine Auguste Clape, Thierry Allemand, and Domaine Alain Voge, all celebrated for expressing Cornas's unique terroir.
