Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 May 04
(nearly 90% merlot) Excellent ruby-red. Black fruits, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose. Quite juicy in the mouth, even a bit youthfully hard-edged, with very fresh blueberry, black cherry, licorice and mineral flavors. Has the energy of a wine from chalky soil. Vibrant finish features firm tannins and good persistence. This has a reasonable 3.4 grams per liter of acidity and a pH of 3.7, according to winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
