1966 - Gruaud Larose, Saint-Julien

The 1966 Gruaud Larose put in a strong performance. Fresh on the nose with black fruit, cedar, tobacco and a touch of chlorine in the background, it has a statesmanlike reserve that is very appealing. The palate is refined with leather-tinged black fruit, wonderful salinity and just the right of bitterness to keep it on edge. This is actually better than the bottle opened at the estate a couple of years ago. Tasted at the old claret Sunday lunch at "Moon Bay" restaurant in Hong Kong.
