Aged largely in oak and partly in stainless steel, the 2017 Ried Supperin Grüner Veltliner is clear, deep and intense on the fruity and mineral (crushed stones) nose. Complex and juicy on the palate, this is a full-bodied and spicy, well-structured GV with fine tannins and a long and intense finish. Excellent! Tasted in Oberloiben/Wachau, September 2018.

Austria

Austria, renowned for high-quality wines, excels in white wines made from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Grüner Veltliner, Austria’s flagship grape, produces wines ranging from light and crisp to rich and full-bodied, with green apple, citrus, and white pepper flavours. Top producers include Weingut Bründlmayer and Schloss Gobelsburg. Austrian Rieslings are celebrated for their purity and vibrant acidity, with notable producers like F.X. Pichler and Weingut Knoll from the Wachau region. Austria also produces distinctive reds from Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, with top estates like Weingut Moric.
