Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Nov 19
The 2017 Red is pure Syrah with 50% whole-bunch fruit, matured for 11 months in 600-liter barrels. Quite deep in color, it has a backward nose at first, one that gradually unfurls to reveal black fruit infused with melted tar and truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and well-judged acidity, and velvety-smooth with great depth on the white pepper and fynbos-tinged finish. Outstanding.

South Africa

South African wines blend Old World elegance with New World fruit-forwardness, offering diverse styles from regions like Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek. The country is famous for Pinotage, a unique grape producing bold, earthy wines with dark berry and smoky notes. South Africa also excels in Chenin Blanc, both crisp and oak-aged. Stellenbosch is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Top producers include Kanonkop (Pinotage), Hamilton Russell (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir), and Klein Constantia (Vin de Constance).
