Roumier's 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village opens in the glass with notes of ripe cherries, raspberries and plums, complemented by hints of warm spices, smoke and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's ripe and muscular, with a lively core of fruit and rich, powdery tannins. More powerful than its 2017 counterpart, this will require some patience.

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village is positively bulging with black and red fruit on the nose of dense blackberry and bilberry; a light marine influence surfaces with time. The palate is well balanced with firm, grippy tannins that feel more robust and slightly drier than the 2019 compared alongside. A little brusque on the finish at the moment; this will require time.

35% whole bunch, 15% new oak. Barrel sample.Super-fragrant and sweet red cherry and just a touch peppery. Open, even though it’s a cold sample, taken from a 2006 barrel. Still the emphasis on bright red fruit. More tension than in the Bourgogne and the tannins finer boned and more structuring. So fresh, crunchy. I hope it stays like this after bottling. But deep too and smooth. Tannins really smooth and dense. Lovely balance and length. (JH)
