Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Oct 19
The 2016 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has impressive transparency on the nose: scents of blackberry, wild hedgerow, hint of black tea. This is unapologetically classic in style and it gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grippy tannins (a leitmotif of this vineyard in 2016) with an almost candied, minty finish that comes on strong. Give it time in bottle and it should turn into a very fine Les Rugiens. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
