Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jan 11
Medium ruby-red. Roasted blackberry, licorice, pepper and crushed rock on the nose. Juicy on entry, then quite imploded in the middle palate, with plenty of energy to the flavors of minerals, spices and pepper. I never would have guessed this wine had a pH close to 3.9. Plenty of fruit lurking but this will need a good five years of bottle aging. Finishes with a suave dusting of tannins. Yves Confuron describes this holding as hot soil in the Combe de Lavaut, almost like Chateauneuf du Pape, but with lift from calcaire

Gevrey-Chambertin Fine Wine

Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin, a prestigious Burgundy appellation in Côte de Nuits, is renowned for producing powerful Pinot Noir wines, often called the "King of Burgundy." These wines are known for bold flavours, complex aromas of dark cherries, blackcurrants, truffles, and spices, with robust structure and excellent ageing potential. The appellation includes nine Grand Cru vineyards, notably Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. Top producers like Domaine Armand Rousseau, Domaine Fourrier, and Domaine Denis Mortet craft wines that reflect the unique terroir and tradition of Gevrey-Chambertin.
