Robert Parker Wine Advocate William Kelley - 20 Jan 22
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet red berries, rose petals, orange rind, peonies and spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and complete, it's velvety and perfumed, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a long, expansive finish.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru, which is the regular cuvée, is more backward on the nose: dark berry fruit, touches of cola, crushed stone and marmalade. It becomes a little more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins. This is one of the fleshier Clos Saint-Jacques. It becomes a little more candied with orange zest, allspice and a touch of cinnamon towards the finish. The 2020 lingers nicely in the mouth. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Tank sample. Mid ruby; bright acidity on the attack, fills out lovingly on the mid palate. Lofty, mineral – but from a very solid base. (MH)
