2021 - Corton Grand Cru Les Pougets, Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot

Aromas of sweet red berries, plums, peonies and spices introduce the 2021 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, rich and ample wine with a deep core of fruit, sweet structuring tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish. This cuvée is always a strong suit chez Jadot, and this year is no exception.

The 2021 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has a fleshy ripe red cherry and crushed strawberry-scented bouquet, perhaps picked a day or two later than its peers, though without the same degree of mineralité or delineation. The palate is balanced with slightly fleshier tannins and touches of something sweet like coconut infusing the red fruit. Very smooth, perhaps the oak is just a little too influential towards the finish, making it more polished than necessary. Not bad overall, but short. This bottle is nowhere near the potential suggested out of barrel, but there you go! Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Sweet, slightly gamey nose. Lighter than the usual grand cru with quite marked acidity. It’s even a little bitter on the end. Not showing beautifully at this early stage. Chewy and without quite enough fruit weight to compensate. (JR)
