The 2022 Ermitage Blanc L'Ermite impresses with hauntingly intense notes of linden blossom, chamomile, ripe melon and quince alongside delicate jasmine elements. Full-bodied and concentrated, the 2022 delivers a totally sapid palate with spot-on balance. The elongated, expansive finale confirms its transformation into something truly spectacular since I last tasted it. Simply put, the 2022 is a masterpiece of a white Hermitage. Kudos to Clément Bärtschi and the entire team at Chapoutier.

Cask sample. Such concentration on the nose, mealy and steely yet with a honeyed peach and chamomile note. The acidity is firm and surprising, lots of fresh and limey notes alongside tangerine, mandarin skin and yuzu. Gentle notes of reduction add a complexity to the mid palate. Quite tight and introverted at the moment yet shows real potential. (AC)

Hermitage

Hermitage, a prestigious Northern Rhône appellation, is famed for its exceptional red and white wines. The reds, made primarily from Syrah, are known for their intense flavours of dark berries, black olives, spices, and smoky, meaty notes, with structured tannins and long finishes. The whites, mainly from Marsanne and Roussanne, offer richness with balanced acidity and flavours of honey, stone fruits, and nuts. Top producers like Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, E. Guigal, and Domaine Delas Frères are celebrated for showcasing Hermitage's unique terroir and quality.
