The 1999 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru replicates previous bottles that I have encountered. That ethereal, transparent bouquet with astonishing detail... tick. That intense yet elegant palate... tick. The way it fans out with effortless ease on the finish... tick. As I have written before, this represents the zenith of Denis Bachelet's winemaking in that era, all lacy tannins and ineffable purity. Utterly sublime. Tasted at a private dinner in Beaune.
