The 2013 Barbaresco Montestefano is one of the more exotic wines I have tasted from La Ca' Nova. The late harvest produced a super-ripe, concentrated Barbaresco built on serious density. Red cherry jam, pomegranate, menthol, leather, tobacco and licorice all develop beautifully in the glass. The Montestefano is quite a bit riper and more overt than the Montefico, which, among other things, means it will drink better earlier.

The 2013 Barbaresco Montestefano is on the ripe side, with bursting cherry fruit followed by blackberry preserves and black currant. Those fruit elements are very evident in this stage of the wine's young life. This is a firmly layered Nebbiolo with good structure. It will be interesting to see where it goes in five years' time.
