The 2013 Vosne-Romanée En Orveaux is a decidedly powerful, muscular wine. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, new leather and menthol are some of the many notes that take shape as this virile Burgundy shows off its compelling beauty and personality. Simply put, the En Orveaux is a wine of considerable potential. Readers who can find it should not hesitate.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru en Orveaux, raised in two-thirds new oak, has a succinct and complex bouquet with perhaps more mineralité than the Aux Reignots. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. There is certainly good weight in the mouth here, plus a sense of symmetry toward the long, silky finish. This is a classy, sophisticated Vosne-Romanée that punches well above its weight - an outstanding success for Sebastien Cathiard.

67% new oak. 59-year-old vines.Glossy, ripe fruit with some real sweetness. Juicy and fun. A bit of a strict line running through but the fruit should win in the end. Just a little strict with drying wood tannins on the very end. (JR)
