(the vines here are 70 years old, vs. 45 for Maume's Charmes-Chambertin) Full, deep red, the darkest of these 2000s. Perfumed, floral aromas of cherry and raspberry; the freshest of these 2000s. Silky-smooth and fat, with subtle, complex flavors of red fruits, underbrush, leather and game; slightly rustic. Perhaps atypically round and forward for Maume's Mazis, without quite the characteristic grip and delineation of this cuvee Finishes with ripe tannins and very good length. Will be better for a few years of additional cellaring, but seems accessible already. Also tasted: Gevrey-Chambertin Etelois.
