Tasting Notes

Vinous Antonio Galloni - 01 Aug 23
The 1996 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic development. It is both elegant, but also quite powerful, in the style of the year. Spice, leather, tobacco and incense lend notable aromatic presence. As good as the 1996 is, and it is terrific, it also doesn’t have the purity of wines like the 2000, 2001 and 2004.

Barbaresco

Barbaresco, a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known as the “Queen” of Piedmont wines, it offers elegance and aromatic complexity with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, roses, and earthy notes. Its well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity enhance its ageing potential. With calcareous soils and favourable microclimates, Barbaresco is a more approachable alternative to Barolo. Top producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Bruno Giacosa, and Pio Cesare, who exemplify its refined character.
