Much more open knit, textured and sexy than a bottle tasted earlier in the year, the 2005 Ermitage le Meal is one fruit-loaded, rich and full-bodied beauty that offers classic notes of black raspberries, charcoal, peppery herbs and licorice. Possessing a voluptuous, layered mid-palate, ripe tannin and beautiful purity, this is a sensational Hermitage that can be enjoyed today with considerable pleasure, yet will keep for another two to three decades.

Bright red. Intensely floral, room-filling bouquet of strawberry, raspberry and smoky minerals. Deep and sweet but incredibly focused and pure, with luscious red berry preserve flavors, silky tannins and terrific mineral lift. Seems to gain depth on the finish, with the sweet red fruit qualities echoing. This is all about the fruit today.

Some very rich, black fruit elements here. Quite aromatic and then very rich and velvety on the palate. It’s the finish that keeps it dry rather than sweet. Sandy tannins. Zesty. Lots of excitement there. This spreads fully across the palate. A very complete wine indeed. Pretty neat tannins and obvious oak influence here. Fifty year old vines on stony, clay, mid level vineyards. (JR)

Hermitage Fine Wine

Hermitage

Hermitage, a prestigious Northern Rhône appellation, is famed for its exceptional red and white wines. The reds, made primarily from Syrah, are known for their intense flavours of dark berries, black olives, spices, and smoky, meaty notes, with structured tannins and long finishes. The whites, mainly from Marsanne and Roussanne, offer richness with balanced acidity and flavours of honey, stone fruits, and nuts. Top producers like Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, E. Guigal, and Domaine Delas Frères are celebrated for showcasing Hermitage's unique terroir and quality.
