The Wine Independent Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 05 Mar 24
Pale straw-gold in color, the 2014 Climens features notes of ginger ale, pear tart, and orange blossom followed by hints of marzipan, candle wax, and chamomile. The palate over-delivers the goods, with layer upon layer of decadent pear, citrus, and spicy nuances framed by a racy backbone and satiny texture, finishing with epic length.

The 2014 Climens has a slightly more resinous bouquet than its peers, with well-defined scents of dried honey, peach skin and wet wool. The palate is well balanced with a pure and harmonious entry, wonderful acidity and superb precision on the finish that makes you want to take another sip. Superb. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Intense apricot fruit with an attractive stone-dust impression, masses of almond paste. Crisp, clean and balanced, relatively simple at the moment and nicely fresh. (JH)

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
