Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Oct 18
The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges Village offers crisp cranberry, crushed strawberry and loam-like scents on the nose, not intense but certainly well defined. The palate is a little grainy in texture on the entry, a classic Pinot Noir really, holding back the fruit but delivering fine tension on the second half. It just cuts away too swiftly on the finish but otherwise, fine. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

Nuits-Saint-Georges, a renowned appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is famous for its robust, structured Pinot Noir wines with rich flavours of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, along with earthy, spicy notes. Known for firm tannins and full-bodied character, these wines are ideal for ageing. Although lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Saint-Georges and Les Vaucrains produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine Henri Gouges, Domaine Faiveley, and Domaine Robert Chevillon, all celebrated for showcasing the unique terroir with traditional winemaking.
