A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2006 Rauzan-Segla has a medium garnet color, with a touch of brick. It slowly emerges from the glass with evolved notes of tobacco leaf, leather sofa, and dried plums, leading to underlying sparkles of kirsch, dried lavender, bay leaves, and pencil shavings. The light to medium-bodied palate offers appealing freshness, with delicate savory flavors and a light chewiness to the texture, finishing with a compelling red berry lift. Looking good!

The 2006 Rauzan-Ségla has to follow the barrel sample of the 2025, and you can see the difference insofar as this does not have the same bandwidth or mineral complexity. The bouquet is more conservative with blackberry, soy and light brown spice notes. The palate is medium-bodied with furry tannins and fine acidity, nicely balanced without any of the medicinal notes I found elsewhere. Drinking perfectly now.

Very fresh nose underpinned by lovely evolution and complexity (a quality in short supply at this tasting of 2014s plus one other usually young vintage). Very pretty and very Margaux. Delicate. (JR)

Margaux wines are characterised by floral notes of violet and rose, red and black fruits like cherry and blackcurrant, refined tannins, a silky texture, and a complex, long finish. The region's gravelly soil enhances grape concentration. Top producers include Château Margaux, known for its finesse and ageing potential; Château Palmer, recognized for its rich, aromatic wines; and Château Rauzan-Ségla, celebrated for its elegant precision.
