The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges bristles with pure energy and tension. Dark red cherry, crushed rocks, graphite and new leather burst onto the palate in a wine that impresses for its sense of energy and sense of direction. The 2012 boasts fabulous balance from start to finish. Frankly, it is hard to put the glass down. The Rouges is pure excitement in the glass.

Good dark red. Pungent stony nose. The youthfully tight palate shows excellent cut and thrust, along with a lightly saline quality to the boysenberry, rust and smoky flavors. Ultimately shows very good structure but the tannins here are a bit drier than those of the Chaumes. Smokier on the back end. This is a late-ripening site that until recently threw too big a crop, noted Grivot.
