Robert Parker Wine Advocate Neal Martin - 28 Apr 16
The 2015 La Chenade is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc picked between September 15-25 and on October 5 respectively, cropped at 45 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 30% new oak. This Lalande-de-Pomerol moves towards red fruit on the nose, crushed strawberry and raspberry pastilles, candied and somehow...joyful. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very fine in the mouth with a keen line of acidity. This is a very cohesive La Chenade, elegant and composed with a touch of salinity towards the finish. This is a graceful La Chenade that should drink early, but clearly has the substance to offer 12-15 years of drinking pleasure.

In 2015 La Chenade was blended from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, giving a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It shoots from the glass with expressive fruitcake, stewed plums and Chinese five spice scents, followed by hints of dusty soil and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a chewy texture and bags of spicy black fruit preserves, finishing on a lingering, ferrous note.

Denis Durantou's 2015 La Chenade is just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. The 20% Cabernet Franc gives the flavors lift and nuance to play off the bright red berry fruit. Hints of tobacco, mint, crushed flowers, licorice and spices add love

This would have been €12 en primeur.Tasted blind. Bright garnet. Not the freshest fruit on the nose – just not oxidised! Very soft – all tannins gone – but ‘pleasant’ even if not complex. Hot finish. (JR)

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
