The 2016 La Grande Rue "Cuvee 1959" Grand Cru had a very complex bouquet with red berry fruit tinged with something like fish oil or shucked oyster shells. It is certainly cut from a different cloth to the regular La Grande Rue. The palate has maybe finer, tauter tannin than the regular cuvée, very tensile in the mouth with a little more sappiness toward the finish. I wager it is not intrinsically superior to the La Grande Rue, just different.
