The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Villages was showing some reduction on the nose, though underneath there appeared to be satisfactory red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, surly at the moment with good depth, a touch of salinity on the blackberry and blueberry finish that bodes well for the future. I find more here than the Morey-Saint-Denis villages at this early stage.

Dark bright red. Inviting aromas of candied raspberry, minerals, licorice and smoky oak. Rich and sweet but quite closed in the early going for village wine, with surprisingly sappy acidity enlivening the somewhat medicinal flavors of dark berries, black cherry and licorice. This chewy wine shows the fine-grained texture of the vintage but finishes with big, slightly aggressive tannins that call for a couple years of patience.

Cask sample. Deep cherry. Ripe, sweet dark fruit. Firmer tannins than many I have tasted so far, with a chalky depth and plenty of fruit sweetness. Chewy and fresh to finish. (JH)

Chambolle-Musigny Vineyard Fine Wine

Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle-Musigny, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is renowned for its elegant, aromatic Pinot Noir wines. Known for their finesse and complex aromas of red berries, violets, and earth, these wines are often described as the most "feminine" of Burgundy. The appellation's two Grand Cru vineyards, Bonnes Mares and Musigny, produce highly sought-after wines with depth and ageing potential. Notable producers include Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Georges Roumier, and Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, all celebrated for their refined winemaking.
