The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots was matured in 50% new oak. Like the Aux Cras this vintage, it comes across as more extrovert and opulent than its Vosne-based counterparts, with billowing black cherries, Griottes, orange blossom and crushed violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, tangible salinity, especially towards the finish that has a touch of oyster shell coming through. I like the energy here, the frisson that keeps you coming back for more. This is an outstanding Boudots from Maxime Chuerlin.

Medium red; not particularly dark for a wine from this estate. Very ripe aromas of cherry, dark berries and coffee. Savory, precise and fine-grained, showing terrific energy as well as a slightly high-toned character. The chocolatey dark fruit flavors convey lovely sucrosité without coming off as heavy. Finishes smooth, lightly salty and long, with suave tannins. This wine is carrying a rather low 3.28 g/l acidity (and a pH of 3.52) but does not lack for verve.

Particularly deep crimson. Only the lightest of noses. Big, bold and beefy with no shortage of fine tannins. Robust! Lots to chew on. And even in the glass it was starting to round out. Excellent finish. Great stuff. (JR)

Nuits-Saint-Georges

Nuits-Saint-Georges, a renowned appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is famous for its robust, structured Pinot Noir wines with rich flavours of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, along with earthy, spicy notes. Known for firm tannins and full-bodied character, these wines are ideal for ageing. Although lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Saint-Georges and Les Vaucrains produce exceptional wines.
