Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 May 09
Bright ruby-red. High-pitched, minerally aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry and bitter chocolate. Chewy and broad but precise, with the ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors given precision by strong underlying minerality. A classically dry and penetrating calcaire wine with lovely dimension and back-end lift. This is made from a parcel of 80-year-old vines on thin clay over limestone, which Jonathan Maltus purchased from Chateau Fonroque prior to the 2004 harvest.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
