Vinous Josh Raynolds - 01 Apr 20
Opaque violet. Intense aromas of mineral-accented cassis, blackberry, olive and licorice are complemented by a suave floral topnote and a hint of smoky bacon. Chewy and subtly sweet, offering deeply concentrated dark berry preserve, licorice, candied violet, bitter chocolate flavors and a spicy jolt of black pepper. Finishes very long and spicy, with chewy tannins and lingering dark berry character.

Crushed stone, menthol and Asian five-spice powder notes accent blueberry fruit on the nose of the 2017 Saint Joseph Le Clos Florentin. Bottled just hours before I tasted it, it's full-bodied, plush and creamy in texture, finishing soft, elegant, long and complex. Enjoy it anytime over the next decade.

Syrupy dark fruits, like plums and blueberries. Some barnyardy brett(anomyces), but not too much. It's pretty tightly coiled now, with intense, sandpapery tannins. (JRL)
