Robert Parker Wine Advocate William Kelley - 13 Feb 20
The 2017 Meursault En la Barre is quite introverted, opening in the glass with a gently reductive bouquet of dried white flowers, pear, citrus oil and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with broader shoulders than the domaine's regular Meursault, it's underpinned by a racy spine of acidity. This should really blossom with a little bottle age.

The 2017 Meursault En La Barre has an earthy nose with hints of wild mushroom infusing the malic fruit. (There is just a touch of reduction, so plan on decanting if opening young.) The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a fine sense of energy and possibly a little more persistence on the finish compared with the nascent 2018.

Meursault

Meursault, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for its rich and complex Chardonnay wines. Known for opulent textures, vibrant acidity, and nutty, buttery flavours with notes of stone fruits, citrus, and hazelnuts, these wines also feature a subtle minerality and creamy mouthfeel from limestone-rich soils and oak ageing. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Perrières, Les Genevrières, and Les Charmes produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Roulot, and Domaine Coche-Dury, all celebrated for showcasing Meursault's unique terroir.
