Tasting Notes

89-91
Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jan 17
(picked on September 6, which Boillot described as late for the Côte de Beaune while noting that the alcohol here was a still-reasonable 13.5%): Bright medium red. Aromas of black cherry and licorice convey a sweet impression. Dense and very ripe but juicy and energetic too, with its strong dark fruit and chocolate flavors conveying a sappy character. This intense Volnay's tannins reach the front teeth, but the wine has the flesh and depth to support them.

Volnay Fine Wine

Volnay

Volnay, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for elegant, refined Pinot Noir wines with silky texture, aromatic complexity, and graceful ageing potential. These wines feature delicate flavours of red berries, like cherry and raspberry, with floral notes and subtle earth and spice. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Crus like Les Caillerets and Clos des Chênes are highly esteemed for their finesse and depth. Top producers include Domaine Michel Lafarge, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, and Domaine Hubert de Montille, all dedicated to expressing Volnay's unique terroir.
