Aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, green apple and pastry cream preface the 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Monts Luisants Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive wine that's racy and tensile. With a finished pH of less than 3.0, this certainly challenges preconceptions about the 2018 vintage.

The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Mont Luisants Blanc 1er Cru comes from a parcel bought in 1997 that was planted with Pinot Noir, that Jacques Seysses grafted over with Chardonnay in 2000. Matured in 20% new oak, it has much more lift on the nose compared to the Village Cru thanks to its limestone soils. Lemon thyme, honeysuckle and a touch of peach skin. The palate is vibrant on the entry, the acidity and mineralité coming through nicely. Good length here. - Neal Martin

Above Clos de la Roche. East-facing and steep so heats up early in the day but goes into the shadow of the trees in the afternoon so you get ripeness but very high acid (very low pH). Tank sample.Quiet on the nose. A little bit spicy. Powerful in the mouth, very crisp and direct. Lean but in a good way. Intense, so dry and mineral on the finish. Long and stony on the finish. (JH)
