Vinous Neal Martin - 22 Nov 22
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru lacks cohesion and vivacity on the nose. The fruit is a little desiccated and overripe, hints of prune coming through with time. There is some Brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with thick, slightly chewy tannins, quite burly in style with a rather heavy, imposing finish. It lacks subtlety, though at least it's clean and without volatility. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Nuits-Saint-Georges

Nuits-Saint-Georges, a renowned appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is famous for its robust, structured Pinot Noir wines with rich flavours of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, along with earthy, spicy notes. Known for firm tannins and full-bodied character, these wines are ideal for ageing. Although lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Cru sites like Les Saint-Georges and Les Vaucrains produce exceptional wines. Top producers include Domaine Henri Gouges, Domaine Faiveley, and Domaine Robert Chevillon, all celebrated for showcasing the unique terroir with traditional winemaking.
