Another beauty is the 2015 IGP Saint Guilhem le Désert, and this blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (there’s a mix of other varieties including Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto) offers terrific notes of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf and graphite. With medium to full-bodied richness, present yet ripe tannin and terrific mid-palate depth, it should shine for a decade or more.

Ripe black currant, crushed flowers, cedar wood and leafy nuances introduce the 2015 Rouge. Lemongrass adds a refreshing layer. Albeit sufficiently concentrated, the medium-bodied 2015 shows a subtle yet noticeable rustic element. I’m curious to see how this one develops, but for now, I'm putting my money on the standout 2016.

Deep garnet colour. Gorgeously mature, furniture-polish aromas. There's a lot of funkiness here, and if you're a clean-freak this might be too 'complex' – however, it has the same kind of mature expression of a respectable bordeaux or southern rhône. (RH)
