The 2021 Pinot Noir is the first of three cool La Niña seasons, and the wine shows savory structure on the middle palate and a tension of fruit that extends throughout the wine and into the finish. This is all about licorice and cocoa, blood orange, pomegranate molasses and an attractive dried rose petal note to close. It's very good. The whole-bunch component here (about 50%, as usual) makes a statement within the wine, but it is balanced by the weight of fruit here too. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Tasted blind. Attractive stem and vegetal notes with bright red fruit and plenty of dark, almost bitter, cherry fruit. Fine tannin, crisp acid, finishing with a gentle floral note. Modern fruit, classic styling, and the whole-bunch stemminess is always in the background. (RH)
