2016 - Barolo Arione, Enzo Boglietti

The Enzo Boglietti 2016 Barolo Arione draws its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, from a vineyard site that has gained much attention in recent years. Arione has thick silty soils and these contribute to the gentle finesse and floral perfumes of the wine. Don't forget power. There is plenty of muscle flexing in this brawny, determined Nebbiolo with firm tannins and deep structure. A mere 2,000 bottles were produced. Count on this wine to complete a long and rewarding drinking arc.

The 2016 Barolo Arione is one of the standouts in this range. Bright red fruit, iron, smoke and chalk give the 2016 plenty of Arione savoriness. The tannins are a bit biting at this stage, but then again, that is Arione. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure and feel, the 2016 packs a good bit of punch.

Lots of tobacco and damp earth with sweet perfume and coiled firm tannins. An assertive wine with lots to offer. When this softens it will give lots of pleasure. (AC)
