(includes some press wine; made from the same holding as the Bougros Vieilles Vignes, but aged in concrete vats rather than ?? tank): Somewhat diffuse aromas of fruit salad and spices. Creamy and ripe but could use more grip and clarity; doesn't quite come alive on the palate in spite of possessing sound acidity. Finishes with very good length but I don't find the dimension or nuance of a top grand cru.

Bottle A: Cork. Dark straw with a greenish tinge. Lightly sherrified nose. This would make a great fino! Just slightly dry on the end.Bottle B: Screwcap. Deeper colour – dark straw. Decent fruit and a real wine. Difficult to tell the two apart in this case! This has just a little more fruit than bottle A. (I scored this bottle 17+, drink 2015–2028.) (JR)

Chablis

Chablis, the northernmost Burgundy region, is famed for its crisp, mineral-driven Chardonnay wines. Unlike rich, oaky Chardonnays, Chablis wines, influenced by the cool climate and limestone-rich soils, feature vibrant acidity and flavours of green apple, citrus, and flint. Ideal with seafood, especially oysters, Chablis wines come in four appellations: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru. Esteemed producers like Domaine William Fèvre, François Raveneau, and Vincent Dauvissat are known for their classic, terroir-expressive wines.
