The 2021 Gigondas shows well, delighting with fragrant red/black plum and black cherry aromas. Licorice, mint and cedar add further layers. Soft tannins contribute to a flawless mouthfeel, backed up by juicy red and black fruits. It should be approachable from early on and gain even more complexity as it ages.

78% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 6% Cinsault, 2% Mourvèdre. Matured in foudres and demi-muids. Cask sample.Tasted blind. Primary nose that has soft red fruits, plum jam. A floral note to the palate adds interest, fine but present tannins support the moderate concentration of fruit. A ripe style and a slight oak char on the finish. (AC)

Rhone

The Rhône Valley in southeastern France is famed for its diverse wines. It's divided into Northern Rhône, known for Syrah-based reds and white wines from Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne, and Southern Rhône, which features blends like Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Northern Rhône wines, such as Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage, are intense and complex, while Southern Rhône's Châteauneuf-du-Pape is known for powerful, spicy reds. Top producers include E. Guigal, Domaine du Pegau, and Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, exemplifying the region's rich winemaking tradition.
