The 2016 Domaine de l’Aurage is the recently introduced Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux by Louis Mitjavile, son of François Mitjavile of Tertre-Rôteboeuf. It has a pure, seductive bouquet of strawberry pastille, morello cherries and touches of blood orange and crème de cassis. The medium-bodied palate is well balanced and offers supple tannin, a judicious sprinkling of white pepper and oregano and a feisty, joyful finish that exudes energy. There is a straightforwardness to this L’Aurage that I like. A wine determined to give pleasure.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
