Tasting Notes

92-94
Robert Parker Wine Advocate William Kelley - 18 Jan 24
The 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot is showing especially well, bursting with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with spices, rose petals and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, it's pure and ethereal, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish.

The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot 1er Cru has a nicely detailed bouquet with black cherries, raspberry coulis, wild mint and a touch of dark chocolate emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and modest weight, very nicely balanced with a smooth, coca-tinged finish. It will need 4-5 years to absorb the 30% new oak.

Cask sample. Mid crimson and smells sweeter and riper than the Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus. Ripe red cherries from start to finish. Paper-fine tannins are refined but sufficient for the generous fruit. (JH)

Volnay Fine Wine

Volnay

Volnay, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, is famed for elegant, refined Pinot Noir wines with silky texture, aromatic complexity, and graceful ageing potential. These wines feature delicate flavours of red berries, like cherry and raspberry, with floral notes and subtle earth and spice. Though lacking Grand Cru vineyards, Premier Crus like Les Caillerets and Clos des Chênes are highly esteemed for their finesse and depth. Top producers include Domaine Michel Lafarge, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, and Domaine Hubert de Montille, all dedicated to expressing Volnay's unique terroir.
