The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru puts in a convincing performance. With brambly red berry fruit on the nose, the coolness of the growing season allows the mineralité of this to really shine, with time in the glass revealing hints of autumn bonfire/fireside hearth. The palate is beautifully structured. It's saline with darker fruit than the aromatics. Quite linear and what you might call "vertical" in style, this is a superb expression of the Grand Cru that still needs a bit of time in bottle.

Sample 1, from a new barrel but only 80% new oak for the final blend:Rich and very substantial. Oak in evidence. Dense. Chiselled. Pretty snazzy! Sample 2:Sweet and a bit jammy on the nose. Broad and a bit wild flowery. Lots of tension. Is this the biodynamic sample? [Yes, it is.] Slightly dry finish. (JR)
