The 2015 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett opens very pure and stony/flinty, as well as fresh and aromatic on the nose. Sweet, lush and intense on the palate, this is a mouthful of stimulatingly fine and round Kabinett. The finish is perfectly balanced and highly seductive. There is no need to wait for this tropical Kabinett. It was bottled with 8.5% alcohol and more than 60 grams of residual sugar.

Fresh apple, grapefruit and lemon deliver invigoration on the nose, not to mention on a buoyant, tangy palate that manages somehow to feature both tart, crisp edges and subtle creaminess. This finishes with the remarkable balance of which its genre is so famously capable, its sweetness solely supportive, even though on paper it looks excessive. And the sense of transparency to alkaline, saline and crystalline stony impingements perfectly complements the wine’s alcoholic levity.

Heady, rich, a real cocktail of flavours including flowers and dry spices. Mouthfilling and so confident! Seems so much more satisfying than the trocken Haarts. Lovely juice! (JR)
