The Castello dei Rampolla 2010 d'Alceo is a gorgeous wine that nails beautiful balance, concentration and freshness. The bouquet is generous and alive with vibrant tones of dark fruit, spice, forest floor and crushed mineral that recalls shale or granite. The wine is immensely vertical and fresh with fine tannins that add to its etched and focused appeal. The bouquet is intact, and the mouthfeel is equally impressive.

Deep ruby. Perfumed aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant, minerals, cedar and graphite are lifted by an intense note of violet. Smooth and fine-grained, with rich, multilayered flavors of vibrant cassis, blackberry, vanilla, aromatic herbs and candied violet. The finish is silky and extremely long, resonating with violet and flinty blackcurrant. D’Alceo is almost one of Italy’s top 20 wines of the vintage, but this 2010 looks as if it will turn into something truly special.
